Roast Zucchini & Yellow Squash with Thyme

My poor mother is gluten free, dairy free, soy free, corn free, garlic free, nightshade (aka tomatoes, potatoes, peppers) free, black pepper free, and onion free. What does she eat? Not a ton, which is why I'm happy when I can cook her something that she really enjoys!  When we were up in Glen Arbor at her log cabin over the Fourth of July we cooked tacos for everyone (using this Frontera Chicken Taco Sauce Pouch over sliced chicken, and Frontera Beef Taco Sauce Pouch over ground beef) She had … [Read more...]

Lamb Chops with Tart Cherry Chutney and Cantaloupe Salsa

So, I can't tell if the title of this recipe, the pictures for this recipe, even the thought of this recipe sounds good BUT BELIEVE ME! This recipe is fantastic! The harvest is in full swing and we've been eating good and reaping the benefits! I created this recipe last week, modified from my recipe for Pork Tenderloin with Tart Cherry Sauce and modeled after an appetizer I had in Charlevoix,  Michigan at the Weathervane Restaurant earlier in July. We try to cook what's in season and it was the … [Read more...]

Oven Roasted Sweet Potato or Butternut Squash Cubes

I was going to post my recipe for Sweet Potato and Chorizo Hash last night but we got home from vacation and there was mysteriously bird poop all around the inside of the house.  Where's the bird? No idea (frightening). Anyways, so the hash recipe will come soon enough, until then, here's a super simple recipe that's a great base for a bunch of recipes I make all of the time (see the list below - includes the hash I will be making soon). All of them are gluten free, dairy free, soy free, and nut … [Read more...]

Strawberry Syrup from Strawberry Hulls and Tops

Strawberry season is coming to an end in Michigan.  Downstate it ended a few weeks ago. When we were Up North for the Fourth we could still find local strawberries, but that will probably end in a few days.  When the berries were in season downstate a few weeks ago my son, Mom and I went and picked 21 pounds of "teensie tiny" strawberries from Middleton Berry Farm in Ortonville, MI. I left for vacation 2 days after so I ended up freezing the majority of them (learn how here). Because … [Read more...]

How to Freeze Strawberries; Preserving Your Harvest

"Can we make stwawbewy umm.....Ummmm..... po....ummmm" "Popsicles?" I say with a huge grin. That was the first sentence out of Little Man's mouth this morning. Yes, we can make popsicles, jam, and many other strawberry filled things because yesterday me, my mom, and my toddler picked 20 lbs of "teensie tiny" strawberries from a farm about an hour from our house. Do I have time to make popsicles, jam, and other strawberry filled things right now? No. Why? Because tomorrow I'm headed up to … [Read more...]

This is gluten free, dairy free, soy free, nut free, Spring cooking at it's finest! Allergy Friendly Banana Bread; Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Soy Free, Nut Free

Back when I first went gluten free, dairy free, and soy free; probably nearly 5 years ago, I found a random recipe for gf banana bread made with gf Bisquick on some random forum (because oddly, that was where most of the recipes were back then) and it was really amazing.  There were no pictures, just a few sentences from a guy who had wanted to make some for his Celiac wife and had experimented with some success. Back then, the only way to find good recipes was to network with other people with … [Read more...]

Maple Tarragon Carrots; Gluten Free, Soy Free, Nut Free, Egg Free Side Dish Recipe

I have been making these way too much lately.  Seriously, at least once a week. My husband is tired of carrots and it's SPRING so I've decided to post the recipe before I retire them for awhile! Spring in Michigan means that there will be a multitude of fresh organic vegetables at our fingertips soon. During the winter months, fresh organics can be harder to come by so these Maple Tarragon Carrots are great to make use of those organic bagged baby carrots that are always in stock at the grocery … [Read more...]

Green Cleaning & Conditioning Leather Furniture; Cleaning with Castile Soap

The first day of Spring was Sunday and I've been bit by the spring cleaning bug....actually, I was bit a few weeks ago when we had a few days of 50 degree weather. The sun was shining, a nice spring breeze trickled through the windows, which had been begging to be opened for months, and I walked over to relax for a minute on my 4 year old cream leather couch...and noticed it's not so cream anymore. Want to see? The right side is cleaned, the left is before. Yikes! Less than a year ago, I … [Read more...]

How to Hard Boil Eggs Perfectly and Peel Easily (without sticking to the shell)

Happy Easter (tomorrow)! Today we went to brunch with my parents where they had an Easter egg hunt for the little man and a small petting zoo.  It was tiny but amazing because all of the kids just went into the fenced in areas and were able to hold baby chicks and ducks (my little man's favorites), as well as pet geese, goats, sheep and chickens.  I couldn't believe that the animals weren't freaking out (well....they probably were). Anyways, on the way home from brunch I called my mom and asked … [Read more...]
