First Week of August Meal Plan; Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Soy Free, Nut Free Recipes

August 15, 2016 by Kristina Leave a Comment

Whenever I talk to people about being gluten free, dairy free, soy free, and nut free I get a ton of questions. Usually the first one is, "What do you eat?" Well, lots of stuff! With our garden and the farmer's market in full swing, I wanted to write a post with our menu from last week.  All of the recipes are gluten free, dairy free, soy free, and nut free. Most are egg free as well.  If you frequent the farmer's market you shouldn't have any trouble finding the fresh ingredients. I provide ...

“Unrolled” Pork and Napa Cabbage Egg Rolls; Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Soy Free, Nut Free Recipe

August 11, 2016 by Kristina Leave a Comment

Do you miss egg rolls? If you're gluten free,  dairy free, soy free, and nut free like me, there aren't many easy substitutes. I tried a rice paper egg roll and it was a disaster. We still ate it (and it tasted good) but you had to peel through a gooey layer of slimy rice paper that didnt really fry up. I was staring at this opened bottle of Sweet Ginger Chili by the Ginger People, that we ate with the failed egg rolls, in the fridge (this stuff is amazing!) And decided I needed to try again. ...

Buttered Radishes with Parsley; Gluten Free, Soy Free, Nut Free Recipe

August 10, 2016 by Kristina 1 Comment

So, I was washing some radishes the other day and I looked out our back window to find 2 adult turkeys and six little ones.  I'm pretty sure it's two females and their babies but I'm not sure. Do they travel in packs?  I yelled to my little man to come over and look. I lifted him up onto the sink and we started discussing them.  "Look, a squirrel is with them" I said. "Yeah, a sqwirrel" said Little Man.  "They're so close, it's so weird" I said. "Awwww, so tcute turkeys" (that's how he ...

Roast Zucchini & Yellow Squash with Thyme

August 9, 2016 by Kristina Leave a Comment

My poor mother is gluten free, dairy free, soy free, corn free, garlic free, nightshade (aka tomatoes, potatoes, peppers) free, black pepper free, and onion free. What does she eat? Not a ton, which is why I'm happy when I can cook her something that she really enjoys!  When we were up in Glen Arbor at her log cabin over the Fourth of July we cooked tacos for everyone (using this Frontera Chicken Taco Sauce Pouch over sliced chicken, and Frontera Beef Taco Sauce Pouch over ground beef) She had ...

Lamb Chops with Tart Cherry Chutney and Cantaloupe Salsa

August 8, 2016 by Kristina Leave a Comment

So, I can't tell if the title of this recipe, the pictures for this recipe, even the thought of this recipe sounds good BUT BELIEVE ME! This recipe is fantastic! The harvest is in full swing and we've been eating good and reaping the benefits! I created this recipe last week, modified from my recipe for Pork Tenderloin with Tart Cherry Sauce and modeled after an appetizer I had in Charlevoix,  Michigan at the Weathervane Restaurant earlier in July. We try to cook what's in season and it was the ...

Oven Roasted Sweet Potato or Butternut Squash Cubes

July 25, 2016 by Kristina Leave a Comment

I was going to post my recipe for Sweet Potato and Chorizo Hash last night but we got home from vacation and there was mysteriously bird poop all around the inside of the house.  Where's the bird? No idea (frightening). Anyways, so the hash recipe will come soon enough, until then, here's a super simple recipe that's a great base for a bunch of recipes I make all of the time (see the list below - includes the hash I will be making soon). All of them are gluten free, dairy free, soy free, and nut ...

Strawberry Syrup from Strawberry Hulls and Tops

July 7, 2016 by Kristina Leave a Comment

Strawberry season is coming to an end in Michigan.  Downstate it ended a few weeks ago. When we were Up North for the Fourth we could still find local strawberries, but that will probably end in a few days.  When the berries were in season downstate a few weeks ago my son, Mom and I went and picked 21 pounds of "teensie tiny" strawberries from Middleton Berry Farm in Ortonville, MI. I left for vacation 2 days after so I ended up freezing the majority of them (learn how here). Because ...

How to Freeze Strawberries; Preserving Your Harvest

June 22, 2016 by Kristina 3 Comments

"Can we make stwawbewy umm.....Ummmm..... po....ummmm" "Popsicles?" I say with a huge grin. That was the first sentence out of Little Man's mouth this morning. Yes, we can make popsicles, jam, and many other strawberry filled things because yesterday me, my mom, and my toddler picked 20 lbs of "teensie tiny" strawberries from a farm about an hour from our house. Do I have time to make popsicles, jam, and other strawberry filled things right now? No. Why? Because tomorrow I'm headed up to ...

Allergy Friendly Banana Bread; Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Soy Free, Nut Free

May 25, 2016 by Kristina 1 Comment

Back when I first went gluten free, dairy free, and soy free; probably nearly 5 years ago, I found a random recipe for gf banana bread made with gf Bisquick on some random forum (because oddly, that was where most of the recipes were back then) and it was really amazing.  There were no pictures, just a few sentences from a guy who had wanted to make some for his Celiac wife and had experimented with some success. Back then, the only way to find good recipes was to network with other people with ...

It’s cold and rainy in Michigan today and I’m wishing I had some homemade chicken broth ready for a soup like this one. This soup is naturally gluten free, dairy free, soy free, nut free, egg free and can be easily made vegan. It also could easily be made nightshade free with the elimination of…
